CancerCompanion AI
AI-powered oncology assistant that translates complex reports, matches patients to clinical trials, and guides treatment side-effect management using MedGemma and TxGemma.

About the Hackathon
CancerCompanion AI is a healthcare-focused application built for Google Research's MedGemma Impact Challenge. It combines MedGemma and TxGemma to help users understand radiology/pathology reports, discover relevant clinical trials, and navigate treatment side effects with plain-language guidance. The platform is designed to be privacy-conscious and practical for real-world care contexts, with resilient model fallbacks and production-ready edge functions.
Challenge & Solution
🎯The Challenge
Cancer patients often struggle to interpret technical clinical reports, identify suitable trials, and manage treatment side effects without clear, accessible guidance.
💡Our Solution
Implemented a three-module workflow: ScanReader for report explanation, TrialFinder for profile-based trial matching with eligibility scoring, and TreatmentNavigator for day-by-day side-effect guidance. The backend prioritizes Kaggle-hosted MedGemma/TxGemma and falls back to external inference for reliability.
Key Features
Outcome & Impact
Delivered a complete, demo-ready healthcare AI product for the MedGemma Impact Challenge with an end-to-end patient journey from scan interpretation to treatment support.
Bridging the gap between complex medical reports and patient understanding.
